Intuition-9
Storm Water Application
Storm Water treatment using polymer coagulants for suspended sediment removal.
Customer | Environmental Compliance Company
PROBLEM
Storm water is collected in large underground vaults either by gravity or transfer pumps. The water is then treated with different types of flocculants and coagulants in a settling basin. Influent and effluent pH is measured and controlled. Final effluent residual polymer and turbidity are also measured. If the final effluent is within limits, discharge is permitted. If the final effluent is out of spec, it is returned to a holding vault for further treatment. The Intuition-9 controllers can be used in conjunction with ultrasonic level sensors and variable frequency drives to control the water level in the storm water holding tank and the settling basin. The Intuition-9 controller is also used to collect critical process data providing proof of compliance to the client and regulator.
SOLUTION
The Walchem Intuition-9 controller provides the required level of precision control as well as handling online monitoring, data acquisition and remote alarming. Precise and accurate coagulant dosage is critical for polymer coagulant systems because it eliminates the possibility of overdosing and minimizes coagulant consumption.
CONCLUSION: Significant Improvement
The Walchem Intuition-9 controller can greatly increase reliability, as well as client and regulatory confidence in the overall system performance. Having the ability to acknowledge process alarms and take corrective action remotely is a major benefit to storm water treatment managers. The Intuition-9 controller will prove to be instrumental in improving water quality by assisting with the removal of contaminants and sediment from storm water runoff.
