Intuition-9
Groundwater Remediation
Remote communications monitor all aspects of groundwater operation from multiple points.

APPLICATION
Large scale construction sites require moving or disrupting earth which can expose groundwater or create pathways for surface water to accumulate. Examples include infrastructure projects, industrial facilities, and residential land development.
PROBLEM
Groundwater collected from construction sites often contains contaminants like heavy metals, petroleum products, and solvents. There are strict environmental regulations that require construction companies to manage and treat contaminated groundwater before it can be discharged into municipal systems or natural water bodies.
Walchem worked with a customer that had remediation systems spread out over an approximately 4-5 square mile area on a highway construction project. This required remote communications to monitor all aspects of the operation from multiple points. Multiple lift stations required level, lead/lag pump, pH and chemical feed control.
SOLUTION
Intuition-9 controllers were chosen for their advanced remote communication capabilities and robust output relay algorithms. The customer needed flexible water quality sensor inputs, and these controllers efficiently monitored pH, turbidity, and conductivity during dewatering operations. IX pumps managed the acid or caustic feed across the site. Additional PLC-based systems were integrated with the Intuition-9 units for seamless remote data collection. The customer utilized Walchem’s Fluent dashboard to oversee multiple controllers simultaneously. This comprehensive system significantly reduced operational fines for out-of-specification discharge water.
